What is Tour de Slate

The Tour de Slate is a bicycle ride that raises funds for Teen Challenge Vt.

The rides are centered around Middletown Springs Vt and the neighboring towns.

Groad
The Tour de Slate is made up of six different routes designed to provide an enjoyable ride no matter what your level of experience.  There will be, as last year, two 'groad' rides. That's a mix of unpaved gravel roads and paved roads. As like last year, there will be a 40 mile guided route and a shorter guided route of appx 25 miles. Your guides will be local elite gravel riders and will be a 'no drop' rides. For more information about the rides, go to the menu bar click 'rides'.
For avid road cyclists, is the metric century (100km, 63.4 mi) ride. The additional choices of a  36 mile route, a 25 mile route or a family ride (off road on a trail) will ensure that there is a ride suitable for everyone. The 'Tour de Slate' is aptly named as it tours the world renowned slate valley of western Vermont and bordering NY state. The beneficiary of the ride is Adult and Teen Challenge, VT. (All net proceeds will be donated to that organization.)

Vermont has one of the the highest illicit drug     usage rates in the nation.

How can you/we help end addiction?

According to some surveys, Adult and Teen Challenge is the most successful drug and alcohol abuse recovery program in the nation. It is totally funded by private donations and other fund raising events. Adult andTeen Challenge, VT receives no government tax funding!

Adult and Teen Challenge has a three pronged approach to ending addiction:

1.Their End Addiction campaign brings a substance abuse prevention presentation to schools, youth groups or community events. It is interactive, multi-media and includes real stories of people who have overcome addiction.

2.The traditional Teen Challenge residential program for men is the most successful (for those who complete the program) drug and alcohol addiction recovery program in the country.
  3.  Teen Challenge, VT also has a women's facility where abused and addicted women can find refuge. It is awesome and totally remodeled and functional. It is safe, warm and provides a loving home where the guest residents can embark on a new life!

"I have always enjoyed riding through the beautiful countryside of Vermont and riding to raise money for Teen Challenge was a bonus. Tour De Slate did a fantastic job organizing the ride, support and activities afterwards. They had a selection of rides to match all biking abilities. Interacting with the teens who have benefited from the program and hearing their testimonials brought purpose to the day. I was glad to hear they are also trying to open a home for women suffering from addiction."  Brian, Jersey Shore

Below is a short video of the Tour de Slate Vision.

                                      Enjoy

What a great ride for a most worthy cause.  The Tour de Slate fund raising ride is a terrific way to enjoy riding the roads of Vermont, while raising money to help stop teenage substance addiction.  I had a wonderful time riding the rolling terrain, sharing the road with fellow riders, chatting with a variety of folks at the rest stops, and discussing our experiences with fellow riders and teens at the post ride lunch (which had excellent food).  This is a ride that I will look to ride each and every year. Rob, Danbury, Ct
